Caledonian Research Foundation

The Caledonian Research Foundation (CRF) was a Scottish Charity which supported and encouraged independent research in Scotland, particularly in the biomedical sciences. It was originally established in 1977 as the Inveresk Research Foundation (IRF), an independent scientific research organisation which received income from the contract research company Inveresk Research International (IRI). Following a management buyout of IRI in 1990, the assets that had supported IRF were used to establish the CRF.  In March 2009 the CRF transferred its activity portfolio and assets to the RSE Scotland Foundation.  From that date the Foundation assumed responsiblity for meeting the CRF's charitable objectives and the following CRF activities are now delivered by the Royal Society of Edinburgh - Scottish Charity SC000470, which is connected to the RSE Scotland Foundation:

  • Biomedical Research Fellowships
  • European Visiting Research Fellowships
  • Postgraduate Scholarships
  • An annual Prize Lecture
  • An annual International Conference on aspects of the biomedical sciences.
