Awards and Activities

To help it achieve its aim of promoting research of international standard in Scotland, the Foundation works closely with both the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland.

The Foundation provides support in five distinct ways:

• Biomedical Research Fellowships for younger academic staff carrying out advanced work in the biomedical sciences in Scottish higher education and research institutions.
• European Visiting Research Fellowships to enable scholars of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences from Europe to spend short periods working in Scotland and vice versa.
• Postgraduate Scholarships for students undertaking research leading to a PhD degree in any subject in Scotland.
• An annual International Conference on aspects of the biomedical sciences.
